...on a country road or a city street
waves slappin' time out on the ocean
listen to the rhythm, put your hands in motion!..."
this is a song from a cassette tape ah kHai got me years back
i lost it many years ago (i keep losing things... very scatterbrain)
but even till now i can still remember many of the lyrics
'cos i listened to it over and over so many times
... & this little whale which reminded me of this song,
is handmade by the very talented Ms crocheThea
(you can see her many wonderful creations here)
who made this upon my special request as a kind of award
for the cutest baby of the year (declared my me)
who's name has a special association with whales
... & this made me realise i'm surrounded by many people
who are all very good with their hands
ma, with her hands at making the most delicate lace tatting, dainty leaf-shaped pineapple tarts, all my pretty dresses when i was a kid;
onebowl, with her hands at stitching together tiny pieces of fabrics to make pretty happy things; limegreenspyda, with her hands at playing the piano and cello
... & thought to myself, how nice it would be
if i can bring all these hand-y people together.
in a large and airy workshop;
with a sky light and garden of greens,
with vases and vases of fresh cut flowers,
rows and rows of yarns, fabrics, spices, ingredients,
with an old wooden piano and a lazy dog,
stitching, baking, sewing, crocheting, tinkling...
.... how nice...
